Caring Ministries Emergency Food Pantry still operating

COLFAX  —  The Caring Ministries Emergency Food Pantry is still operating from the Colfax United Methodist church.

“There seems to be some confusion in the community if it is still actively serving people, which it is,” said Reverend Craig Conklin, the pastor at Colfax United Methodist and Tainter United Methodist, in an e-mail message to the Colfax Messenger.

Colfax United Methodist is located on the corner of Cedar Street and West Railroad Avenue in Colfax.

The Colfax Community Cares food pantry that was open once a month at the old nursing home building on High Street in Colfax stopped food distribution in December.

The Caring Ministries Emergency Food Pantry and the Colfax Community Cares Food Pantry are two separate programs.

The Caring Ministries Emergency Food Pantry is an emergency pantry to provide food for people living within the Colfax Community School District boundaries, Reverend Conklin said.

The emergency food pantry can be used twice during a calendar year for food emergencies that a family in the school district might be experiencing, he said.

While Pastor Conklin and Geri and Ernie Bates are the coordinators of the Caring Ministries Emergency Food Pantry and the Support For Sunday backpack program in Colfax, the food pantry programs are the result of a joint effort of all of the churches in the area.
