ELK MOUND — Elk Mound played host to the last meet of the season for Region one of the Wisconsin High School Powerlifting Association on Saturday, February 9, that includes fifteen schools in the region.
Josie Jacobson of Elk Mound finished third in the 148-pound weight class behind Abigail Johnson of New Richmond and Mara Mulligan of Phillips. Jacobson’s best squat was 145 pounds, a 90-pound bench press and a 230-pound dead lift.
Finishing in third and fourth in the 123-pound weight class was Colfax’s Jaclyn Olson and Addy Paulson. Olson finished with a 155-pound squat, 85-pound bench and a 220-pound dead lift Paulson, meanwhile, had a 135-pound squat, 70-pound bench and a 190-pound dead lift.
All together, Colfax had 15 athletes compete in Elk Mound while the Mounders had 62 athletes in the event.
Elk Mound’s Nanya Kue finished first once again in the 97-pound weight class with a 115-pound squat, 75-pound bench and a 200-pound dead lift.
Bailey Schlough of the Vikings finished her afternoon with a third place showing in the 148-pound weight class with a 230-pound squat, 135-pound bench and a 285-pound dead lift.
The boys were filtered in on one of the four platforms that were set up at February 9 meet.
The Mounders’ Calvin Brueggen finished in first in the 123-pound weight class. Brueggen topped out with a 190-pound squat, a 115-pound bench and a 280-pound dead lift.
Asher Pesha of the Vikings finished in second behind Brueggen with a 140-pound squat, 80-pound bench and a 185-pound dead lift.
Moving up the weight classes to the 132 pounds, Dalton Klukas of Colfax finished in second for the Vikings with a 260-pound squat, 200-pound bench press and a 315-pound dead lift.
The 165-pound weight class had two members of the Mounders’ team finishing in second and third. Ethan Kaanta took second with a 370-pound squat, 200-pound bench press and a 380-pound dead lift. Mason Close who finished third had a 315-pound squat, a 170-pound bench, and a 460-pound dead lift.
Koby Flodquist and Chase Aspengren finished in third and fourth for Colfax in the 282-pound plus weight class. Flodquist had a nice 365-pound squat, 200-pound bench and a 395-pound dead lift, while Aspengren finished with a 325-pound squat, 225-pound bench and a 375-pound dead lift.
Those who qualified for state will compete on March 2-3 in Appleton, WI.
