COLFAX — It has been a season of futility for the Boyceville boys’ basketball squad.
After winning its first two contests of the season, both non-conference games, the Bulldogs have been unable to rediscover a winning formula.
The frustration continued last week as they dropped a Monday, February 18 contest to rival Glenwood City (see story elsewhere in this week’s issue) and then suffered a 77-33 setback on Thursday, February 21 to conference champion Colfax to end the regular season on a 17-game losing skid.
With the conference and regular-season finale loss to Colfax, Boyceville finished eighth and without a win in the Dunn-St. Croix conference, going 0-14.
It was an uphill battle from the get go for Boyceville last Thursday night in Colfax as they found themselves down at half by 27 with no way to make up the deficit as the game ended with a 44-point gap.
Brady Nye got things kicked off for the Bulldogs with his first three points of the evening, but added only three more points and finished with six for the evening.
Senior Jaden Reisimer managed nine points against the Vikings followed by William Link who had six points.
Brendan Sempf and Connor Larson put up only three points a piece for the Bulldogs, but the strength and depth of Colfax has proven to be difficult for the Bulldogs in both meetings of the 2018-19 season.
The Vikings had a big first half on offense, scoring 46 points to just 19 fo the Bulldogs. While the scoring slowed in the second half, Colfax still bested Boyceville by seven in the latter half, 21-14, to post the 77-33 win.
Boyceville also got two points from Connor Sempf and Cade Klefstad.
The 12th-ranked Bulldogs traveled to Cameron (#5) Tuesday night for the first round of the 2019 WIAA Division 4 boys’ basketball tournament with hopes to move on to take on either #13 Shell Lake or #4 Cumberland in a regional semifinal on Friday, March 1.
At the time of publication coaches had yet to send stats and comments for the game.
