News for the week of February 10th – 16th
We started out the snowy Monday with story time. To take everyone’s mind off the weather, Barb shared some knock, knock jokes much to everyone’s enjoyment. Later that morning we readied the Square for our Green Leaf Café. With checkered table cloths and menus in place the room looked just like a small town pub. We even added valentine themed center pieces to make it even more festive. As the residents gathered, waitresses Loretta, Tina and Barb took orders and served up drinks. Everyone enjoyed visiting while Chef Andy and his assistant Chrystal prepared their food, fresh off the grill and hot from the deep fryer. For dessert Chef Andy prepared chocolate dipped strawberries decorated with a beautiful white chocolate heart. Everyone enjoyed the delicious meal and the chocolaty dessert. Later that afternoon our quilters gathered in the Square to work on a new item, tote bags made from colorful plastic feed bags. Some of the residents cut out the pieces while others sewed them together. Melissa our Director of Nursing even stopped by and helped out with some of the sewing.
Tuesday mornings’ activity group went a little crazy (just like the wintery weather outside!) Gather up some residents, add some instruments and a karaoke machine, and watch out! More joined in when they heard the music and laughter. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Due to the winter snow storm, some of our volunteers stayed safe at home. But Michelle, Barb and Loretta made sure the game ran smoothly. Later that afternoon, Jordan Herrick braved the weather to spend time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Conklin led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns. The afternoon found another visit from Mrs. Right and Mr. Left. This time they brought Valentine’s Day themed prizes. After an hour of passing the present, many went away with delicious chocolaty treats.
Valentine’s Day started out with some very special visitors. A quartet of local barber shoppers came to serenade some residents with love songs while presenting them with a valentine and a red rose. Later our weekly volleyball teams met. The residents love to play our version of this game and become very competitive. But at the end, we declare everyone a winner as we all get some exercise while having a great time. In the afternoon, Audrey served up beautiful and tasty Valentine ice cream treats. After bounce ball, residents spent some time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick.
We started our Friday with devotions and stories with Brenda. After lunch Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
Next week will be another busy week here at Colfax Health and Rehab. Besides our regular bingo we will gather for an afternoon of Blackout Bingo. The residents will invest some of their winnings from Dime Bingo for a chance at a much larger prize. Later in the week we look forward to a visit from some of our favorite entertainers, Chuck Kirkwood and Friends.
