SPRING VALLEY — The Boyceville girls’ basketball team has quietly put together a three-game winning streak that has pushed them above the .500 mark in conference and overall games for the first time in a month.
Boyceville earned a regular-season sweep of Spring Valley last Friday to post its first winning record since early January.
The Lady Bulldogs went on the road and beat the Cardinals 45-37 in the Febraury 8 game to push their conference mark to 6-5, good for fourth place in the Dunn-St. Croix, and 9-8 in all games this season.
That was the Boyceville girls only contest last week as wintery weather forced the cancellation of an already rescheduled non-confernce contest against Cumberland last Monday, February 4.
The Bulldogs were able to finally get a game in last Friday evening against the Spring Valley Cardinals after nearly two weeks without a game.
“Definitely a game that showed we had not played in two weeks and had very minimal practices,” said Bulldogs head coach Jolene Bird. “Proud of the girls to pull out the win.”
Junior Emma Ouellette led the Bulldogs with 14 points last Friday evening with a dozen coming in the second half off a three, a two and 7-of-12 shots from the foul line.
Backing Ouellette up on offense were her teammates Ana Evenson and Rachel Prestrud with each putting in 11 points for the Bulldogs.
At the end of the first 18 minutes of the contest, Boyceville found themselves leading by two points over host Spring Valley and continued to focus themselves on a win as they put up six more points than the Cardinals in the second half.
Only two other players scored for the Bulldogs. Jensine Boesel tallied six points and Kady Grambow sunk a single trey before exiting the game with five fouls.
The Bulldogs wrapped up their regular and conference seasons this week with home games against Mondovi and co-leaders Durand and Colfax. Boyceville played Monodvi this past Monday evening, February 11, Durand the following evening, February 12 and will close against the Colfax Vikings this Thursday, Valentine’s Day, February 14 in the annual “Coaches versus Cancer” game.
The Boyceville Bulldogs drew the sixth seed and will host eleventh-seed Chetek-Weyerhaeuser next Tuesday, February 19, for the first round of the WIAA Division 4 regional tournament. The winner will travel to Unity on Friday, February 22 to take on the third-seeded Eagles.
