News for the week of February 3rd – 9th
Monday morning found residents gathered for devotions and story time. After an inspiring devotional to lift our spirits, Barb read stories about life on the farm. A topic that many enjoyed listening to and some shared their memories about growing up on a farm. Monday afternoon found a group of residents gathering for our monthly Resident Council. We reviewed next month’s activities and menu and discussed future activities and meals that residents might like. Later our quilters gathered in the Square. Some of the ladies worked on microwave bowl holders while others made quilted pot holders. Angie leads this busy group and it is always exciting to see what they will make next.
The Sitersize exercise group started out our Tuesday morning with residents gathered in front of the TV to follow along to an exercise video that not only loosens up the muscles, burns some calories, but is also fun to do, all while sitting in the comfort of your chairs. Cribbage was the name of the game on Ridge Crest as Al, Toby, Vern, Tom and Gus enjoyed an hour of homemade cookies, hot coffee and fast flying cards! The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square for an hour of Prize Bingo. Volunteers Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. Before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick spend time with us. Not only does he share an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Eide of Shepard of the Hill Lutheran church in Elk Mound led our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate her taking the time to come and share with us. Rich Schroeder entertained us in the afternoon. He always draws a crowd as his beautiful voice and talented guitar playing echoes through the halls.
Noodle meet Ball started out our Thursday morning as residents gathered for an hour of fun using beach balls and Styrofoam noodles. As they hit the ball, it was a challenge to see which team could keep the ball on the opponent’s side. In the end, everyone came away a winner and we all had fun and got in a little exercise in the process. Later, we mixed up a batch of homemade bread and set it aside to rise. It was ready to bake in the afternoon and for coffee time many enjoyed a warm slice with some butter and strawberry jam. After evening bounce ball, residents spent some time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick. It is great that he takes time from his busy schedule to share with us. The residents all look forward to his visits.
We gathered Friday morning for Devotions and Stories. After lifting our spirts with devotions, Brenda read a story about living through the Depression. Everyone had their own stories to share about this difficult time in our history. All agreed, they would never want to go through that again, but it definitely brought people closer. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
Next weeks’ activity highlights include Green Leaf Café with a special dessert prepared by Chef Andy. Mrs. Right and Mr. Left will bring Valentine goodies and an afternoon of fun. We also have a few “treats” up our sleeve for Valentines’ Day.
If you are interested in seeing what goes on at the Big Yellow House you can go to our web site, Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center or like us on Facebook where pictures happenings, the activity schedule and menu for the week are posted.
Until next week, stay warm! Barb Stobb, Activity Director
