The Bloomer/Colfax wrestling team split a pair of dual competitions last week.
Hosting its final home match of the season, Bloomer/Colfax took care of business, easily defeat the visiting Flambeau Falcons 57-12 last Tuesday evening, January 22.
Unfortunately, the Raptors just missed a second straight win during the 2019 Heart O’ North Conference Duals held in Hayward last Friday night, January 25. Bloomer/Colfax surrendered a sizable early lead when it fell to host Hayward/Northwoods 42-40 in the fifth place match.
Bloomer/Colfax will close out the regular season this Saturday, February 2 when it travels to Chetek-Weyerhaeuser for the Heart O’ North Individual Conference tournament. Action is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
HON Conference Duals
For the second straight year the ten-team Heart O’ North Wrestling Conference held a dual tournament that pitted similar place finishers in the North and South divisions against one another.
This year’s meet was held last Friday evening, January 25 at Hayward High School.
As the fifth-place finisher in the South Division, Bloomer/Colfax opened the dual tournament against host Hayward/Northwoods, who placed fifth in the North Division.
The Raptor wrestlers ran to a 36-6 advantage only to see the host win six straight matches and rally for the 42-40 win in the fifth-place dual.
In the dual that began at 113 pounds, Bloomer/Colfax registered pins by Alex Poirier (113) and Julio Hernandez (120) and received forfeits at 132, 138, 145 and 152 pounds to lead the 36-6.
But Hayward/Northwoods picked up pins at 160, 195 and 285 pounds to go along with forfeits at 170, 182 and 220 pounds to forge a come-from-behind 42-36 lead.
The Raptors had an opportunity to tie the dual in the final match at 106 pounds but needed a fall to do so. And while the Raptors’ Luke Blanchard dominated his opponent, Drake Marks, the Bloomer/Colfax grappler was only able to finish with major 12-1 decision which left the team two points short in the final count.
In other dual results: Superior defeated Chetek-Weyerhaeuser/Prairie Farm 45-27 in the fourth-place dual; Ashland knocked off Barron 53-30 for third; Spooner/Webster took care of Ladysmith winning the second-place battle 57-21; and Cumberland defeated Northwestern 43-29 in the championship dual.

Bloomer/Colfax won ten of the 14 matches during its home dual against Flambeau last Tuesday, January 21. The Raptors scored an easy 57-12 win over the Falcons, who finished with just two match wins.
Mitchel Harmon (138), Austyn Bartz (160) and Bowen Rothbauer (152) had pins and Isaac Lagesse (126) a decision for Bloomer/Colfax who also collected forfeits at 106, 113, 120, 132, 145 and 285 pounds.
There were double forfeits at 195 and 220 pounds.
