The Bloomer/Colfax wrestling squad is still searching for its first dual victory in the Heart O’ North conference after losing in Barron last Friday night.
The Golden Bears won ten matches including seven by forfeit to defeat the Raptors 55-24 in the January 11 dual.
The Raptors had little time to lick their wounds as they competed at Ladysmith High School the following day in an individual tournament were Colfax grapplers Sawyer Best and Mitchel Harmon captured first-place finishes. The team finished 12th overall.
The squad is off until Tuesday, January 22 when it will host Flambeau for a dual.
Bears maul Raptors
Although Bloomer/Colfax won four of the contested seven matches – all by pin falls, the Raptors had to forfeit at seven other weight classes giving the Golden Bears a 55-24 dual meet victory when B/C visited Barron last Friday night, January 11.
Colfax’s Luke Blanchard (106), Julio Hernandez (126), Sawyer Best (132) and Mitchel Harmon (138) each won on pins to account for all 24 of Bloomer/Colfax’s team points.
Barron received forfeits at 120, 145, 170, 182, 195, 220 and 285 pounds to go with a pin, a major and a decision in its other three wins.

Colfax juniors Sawyer Best and Mitchel Harmon both finished a perfect 4-0 to capture gold medals in the Ladysmith Tournament held Saturday, January 12.
Harmon won the 138-pound title to improve to 19-1 on the season. He registered three consecutive pins to open the tournament and finished with a 10-5 decision over Reedsville’s Landon Kapser in the championship bout.
Best, 18-2, proved to be his namesake as he was the best wrestler at 132 pounds which included wins on a technical fall and two decisions highlighted by a close 3-2 win in the title match against Sam Pickerign of Cornell/Gilman.
Colfax wrestlers Luke Blanchard was fifth at 106 pounds and Julio Herandez took 14th place at 126 pounds.
Teammates Bowen Rothbauer (152) placed third and 113-pounder Alex Poirier finished 11th.
As a team, the Raptors placed 12th with 183.5 points in the 21-team tournament as Cumberland took the top spot with 403 points.
Dragon Duals Revisted
Bloomer/Colfax wrestlers finished 3-1 at the January 5 Dragon duals held at Osseo-Fairchild High School.
As reported in the January 9 issue of the Colfax Messenger, the Raptors had won a pair of duals in the tournament, beating both host Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/Fall Creek 48 to 36 and Independence/Gilmanton 48 to 18.
Bloomer/Colfax wrestling actually capped the dual-style tournament with a 3-1 record as it was also victorious against Mondovi, winning 48 to 18, but lost to Arcadia by a dozen points, 42 to 30.
Once again forfeits played a big factor in the split against the Buffaloes and Raiders with 19 forfeits including four double forfeits being awarded between the two duals.
In the win over the Buffaloes of Mondovi, the Raptors, who won the dual’s first five matches to take a 30-0 advantage, collected four forfeits and another four pins which were registered by Mitchel Harmon (138), Nate Rosolowski (152), Alex Poirier (113) and Julio Hernandez (126).
All three of Mondovi’s wins came via forfeits. There was also three double forfeits (182, 195 and 106).
Bloomer/Colfax also jumped to an early lead against Arcadia as it built a 24-0 advantage on pins by Harmon (138) and Bowen Rotherbauer (160) which were bookended around forfeits to B/C’s Cal Lueck (145) and Rosolowski (152).
But the Raiders received five forfeits over the next six weight classes from 170 through 106 pounds with a double forfeit at 285.
Alex Poirier was awarded a forfeit at 113 pounds that allowed the Raptors’ wrestling team to knot the score at 30, but Arcadia took the final three matches and the dual with two decisions and a fall to win 42-30.
The best bout of the Arcadia dual came in the final match where the Raiders’ Tyler Klar edged out Sawyer Best 5-4 at 132 pounds.
