DURAND — In their latest hard court venture, the Lady Bulldogs found themselves matched up against the Dunn-St. Croix co-leader Durand Panthers last Thursday evening, January 3, in a game that wouldn’t go the way that Boyceville planned as they lost by 40 points on a 70 to 30 final score.
“On the offensive end of the ball, we were able to get good looks when we were patient and ran an offense,” explained Boyceville coach Jolene Bird.
The Bulldogs slipped to 2-3 in conference and 5-5 overall.
The first half did not go Boyceville’s way as they put up a mere 14 points in the first 18 minutes of play against the Panthers and trailed by 24 points at the break.
Tyra Kostman led the eight Bulldogs who scored in the game with eight points from a pair of doubles and four-of-seven at the charity stripe. Kostman was able to snag five defensive rebounds and another three on the offensive end.
Junior Ana Evenson managed to tack on seven points in her minutes played against Durand. Evenson hit the net for three doubles and a single foul shot. Evenson also grabbed three defensive rebounds for Boyceville.
“Defensively we had too many lapses in cover and too much lack of communication getting back into transition,” coach Bird stated.
Julia Hayden of Durand was a thorn in the side of the Bulldogs as she hit the net for six triples and a double to give her 20 points of the Panthers’ 70.
Rachel Prestrud and Emma Ouellette got into the mix last Thursday evening with five points a piece. Prestrud hit the glass for a pair of doubles and a single bonus shot while Ouellette had a double and a well placed shot from the three point range.
Teammates Alyx Bloom and Mya Lagerstrom managed five and three points respectively. Bloom also snared three defensive rebounds.
The Bulldogs hosted Spring Valley last evening, Tuesday January 8, and will embark on a three-game road swing when it plays at the other conference co-leader Colfax this Friday, January 11. Boyceville will then be in Amery for a non-conference tilt with the Warriors next Tuesday, January 15 before finishing in Elk Mound on Thursday, January 17. The Lady Bulldogs next home game is set for January 22 when Elmwood/Plum City comes to the Dog House.
