CAMERON — The Colfax/Bloomer Raptors’ wrestling team competed in a 6-team dual tournament in Cameron Friday, December 21.
As a team, the Raptors went 1-4 in the competition, although three of their four losses were by eight points or less.
Bloomer/Colfax bested Durand 45-18 for its lone victory. The team lost 52-26 to Amery, 38-30 to Cameron and by three points each to fellow HON member Superior (39-36) and Unity (36-33).
While the team struggled, individual Colfax wrestlers had some fine performances including a pair of undefeated records by Sawyer Best and Mitch Harmon who both posted 5-0 marks in Cameron.
“It was a pretty good night for us,” said assistant coach Adam Davison. “Both Mitch Harmon and Sawyer Best made their season debuts on Tuesday (in a dual against Northwestern), so it was good to get them each some matches.”
Mitch Harmon finished unbeaten in the 145-pound weight class with two wins coming via forfeit against Durand and Unity. Harmon won against Keaton Tollakson from Amery by a technical fall after receiving 18 points to Tollakson’s two. He went on to gain the pin fall over Cameron’s Derek Huppert at 3:10 and pin fall over Jackson Karren of Superior in 1:27.
“Sawyer, in particular, had a big night as he beat the eighth ranked kid in the state by decision,” Davison explained.
In that 6-3 decision, Sawyer Best beat Walker Ingham of Amery during the December 21 duals. Best went on to rule the 132-pound weight class by beating Cole Romsos of Cameron by pin fall at 2:00, Joseph Lehto of Superior by pin fall in just 13 seconds, Ethan Kummer of Durand by pin fall at 1:24 and Chevy Baxter of Unity.
Julio Hernandez was 2-2 for the Raptors with his two wins coming from forfeits in the 126-pound weight class. Trey Hovde was 3-2 at 138 pounds with wins over Superior, Durand and Unity wrestlers.
B/C will wrestle a HON conference dual in Cumberland on Friday, January 4 and will then compete in the Osseo-Fairchild tournament the next day.
