Boyceville girls’ basketball gets pass free throw trouble in win over Mondovi

MONDOVI — The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up another week with a conference game against Mondovi last Thursday evening, December 13, and corralled a win 39-32 against the Buffaloes.
“It was a very physical ball game, the girls played very hard and were fortunately able to fight through some foul trouble and come away with a total team effort win,” said head coach Jolene Bird.
With the win over Mondovi it moved Boyceville up the conference ladder to fifth with a record of 2-2 and an overall record of 4-3. Last Thursday’s win puts the Bulldogs just one game away from tying the wins they had during the 2017-18 season.
Tyra Kostman had a solid night on the court netting four doubles and three free throws against the Buffaloes.
Stepping up for the Bulldogs was junior Rachel Prestrud hitting the hoop from the outside for three triples in last Thursday’s contest, Prestrud was also one-for-two from the foul line.
“Unfortunately, our FT shooting trouble still plagued us and made for a tighter game than it should of have been,” Bird explained.
Boyceville had 29 attempts at the charity stripe and netted only 13 against the Buffaloes, giving the Bulldogs a 45 percent average from the foul line.
Kady Grambow got into the mix of things with a trey and one free throw, the four points gives Grambow an overall total of 46 for the 2018-19 season thus far.
Adding to the points were teammates Emma Ouellette with seven, Ana Evenson tacked on five points and Alyx Bloom contributed two points from the charity stripe.
Boyceville will return to the hardwood in a road game at Turtle Lake to take on the Lakers on Friday, December 21, before the Christmas break.
