COLFAX — The 4th Annual Colfax Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, at the Colfax United Methodist Church.
Bruce, Loretta and Bryce Fransway, along with other volunteers, are offering families and individuals a traditional Thanksgiving dinner at the church.
The meal can either be delivered to your home or you can come and pick up your meals at Colfax Methodist starting at 10:30 a.m., said Bruce Fransway.
Thanksgiving dinner will be served buffet style at Colfax United Methodist from noon to 1 p.m.
Pick-ups and deliveries will go from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Last year, about 150 meals were served or delivered, Fransway said.
Meals were delivered last year to almost as far as Ridgeland, he noted.
A variety of people take advantage of the free Thanksgiving dinner. Some are shut-ins who have no family and no ability to get out for a meal. Some have medical bills and cannot afford to buy all of the ingredients for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Some are elderly couples who have no one else with whom to share Thanksgiving dinner, Fransway said.
Last year, a father came with his two daughters to volunteer their time to help serve and deliver meals, he said.
The mother of the family was working that day, and the father and the daughters wanted to do something to help someone else. When they were finished helping with the Colfax Community Thanksgiving dinner, they went home and had their own family Thanksgiving after the mother was done with work, Fransway said.
In fact, the daughters thought it was such a worthwhile cause, they are coming back again this year to help, he said.
Anyone who would like to volunteer is more than welcome.
“We never turn anyone away who wants to help,” Fransway said.
Volunteers can be used ahead of time as well for tasks like peeling potatoes, he noted.
