VERONA— Going into the WIAA Division 2 Girls’ State Golf Championship in Madison last week, Colfax senior Abby DeMoe was shooting for a top-ten finish in her third and final state meet.
DeMoe came close as she finished tied for 13th place with Anaka Leske of Madison Edgewood just ten strokes a spot in the top ten individual finishers.
DeMoe shot an 89 her first day, and carded a 93 on the final day of competition, for a tally of 182 in the two-day tournament held last Monday and Tuesday, October 8 and 9 at the University Ridge Golf Course.
With the end of the Colfax golf season, DeMoe was named an Academic All-State honoree by the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin for competing in varsity golf all the while keeping a high academic standard (see related story).
Clair Phakamad of Xavier won the Division 2 individual state championship with a overall score of 152 and Annie Balduzzi of LaCrosse Aquinas was just two strokes back, finishing second with a score of 154.
Winning the team state title was Madison Edgewood with a score of 333 and Xavier finished 68 strokes over par for second place with a score of 356.
