Lack of offense leads to a Vikings’ football loss to Durand Panthers

By Amber Hayden

DURAND — The Colfax Vikings made their way to Durand on September 28 to take on the Panthers only to return home on the short end of a 42-6 score.

“Their (Durand) offense is good, and I knew we would struggle with it. But I thought we would score more than once,” stated head coach Matt DeMoe.

In the first quarter, the Panthers struck first with a rushing touchdown by Brett Ingli for two yards and a two point conversion by Simon Bauer.

Colfax seemed to struggle with stopping the rushers for Durand. Simon Bauer of the Panthers would drive in another rushing touchdown at 5:04 of the first half but the two point conversion run was unsuccessful for the Panthers.

Mitch Harmon rushed for 32 yards during the Friday night game, during which Colfax would get their only score of the game and bring it to 14-6 in the first quarter.

Vikings player Jackson Hellmann led the receiving yards for Colfax with a total of 82, but with missed opportunities to move the ball around Colfax wouldn’t find the end zone again Friday evening.

Durand scored with eight seconds left in the first quarter from a 47 yard rush by Simon Bauer, and Colfax would stop the two point conversion giving the Panthers a 20-6 lead.

Five minutes into the second quarter the Panthers player Lucas Zeilinger ran 13 yards making it a 26-6 score and with 54 seconds left in the half Durand quarterback T.J. Tulip threw a hail mary pass to Caden Berger for 83 yards and a touchdown with a successful two point conversion run by Brett Ingli making it 34-6.

The final score of the night for Durand came at 5:57 of the third quarter, Simon Bauer had a ten yard rush and a successful two point conversion. The Vikings managed to hold the Panthers during the fourth quarter to zero points and the game would end 42-6.

The Vikings will travel to Glenwood City on October 5 to take on the Hilltoppers and coach DeMoe feels his team needs to get back on track offensively. “We need to be more disciplined versus Glenwood, and stick to the basics in the run and passing game,” stated DeMoe.
