Rural Elk Mound man dies in farm accident

TOWN OF SPRING BROOK —  A 20-year-old rural Elk Mound man died Friday morning in the Town of Spring Brook when a tire being inflated blew up and struck him in the head.

According to a news release from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department, Seth Splitter had changed a tire on a wheel from a wagon used to haul silage.

While the tire was being inflated, it depressurized, and the escaping air launched the tire and rim into Splitter, who was working on the tire.

The Dunn County E-911 Center received a report at about 8:31 a.m. Friday, September 21, of a tire that had blown while being worked on and that an adult male had sustained head trauma.

Eau Claire Ambulance and deputies from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene in the 9600 block of County Road E in the Town of Spring Brook.

Splitter was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dunn County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation.
