News for the week of September 16th to the 22nd:
It seem like I just wrote about planting of the sunflower seeds next to the building, and now their beauty has faded as the plants dry up and the seeds will soon be harvested. With this week being the official beginning of the fall season, we have many things to look forward here at Colfax Health and Rehab.
We have several outings planned which include a trip to the apple orchard, an outing to the cornfield to watch corn harvesting, and we will roam the beautiful bluffs surrounding Colfax when the leaves are at their peak to see the splendor that only God can create.
The craft room was busy Monday morning as the ladies had several projects they are working on. Some cut fleece, some began working on our reindeer ornaments, while others cut out colorful leaves for our Give Thanks Tree. Meanwhile the men enjoyed a video and discussion on past harvesting times. Early afternoon found special visitors to the Big Yellow House. Pickles and Squirt the miniature horses trotted down the halls and visited the residents and staff. We always look forward to them coming.
Cribbage was the name of the game on Tuesday morning with Al and Gus leading the group. Meanwhile in the Square the women were back to work on more fleece scarves and ornaments. In the meantime other residents enjoyed the antics of the Beverly Hillbillies in the East Lounge. After lunch the Catholics gathered for prayers and devotions. Patty leads this group and the residents appreciate her taking the time to share. Then it was time for prize bingo and some very happy people when the hour was done as their bags were filled with treats. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick come and spend some time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Wednesday morning Pastor Walck came to lead us in our weekly church service. We appreciate him taking the time to share with us. Blue Sky was the entertainment for the afternoon and as usual, Peggy, Bob and Teresa drew a large crowd to the Square to listen to their version of many of our favorite old time songs.
Residents gathered in the Square Thursday morning for our monthly Breakfast Club. Before we ate, we discussed menu choices the residents would like for upcoming meals. After the meeting Chef Andy treated us to one of our old time favorites, Bisquick breakfast bake. Many reminisced about serving this dish for our families on special occasions. We exercised our brains Thursday afternoon with our monthly Spelling Bee. The residents enjoy testing their knowledge, and also reminisce about past school days when an occasional Spelling Bee was a part of the school curriculum.
We began Friday with our weekly Gospel Sing a Long. We love picking out our favorite hymns to sing. Kathy and Bruce lead us in this hour of music and prayer. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.

Until Next Week,
