Did you know September is Library Card Sign-up Month? To celebrate, the Friends of the Glenwood City Library are writing one article for each week of September. This week, we will talk about library services you might not know about.
Movies, Shows, Music, and More
We all know that libraries have books. And many know that libraries have movies. But did you know that you can also borrow entire seasons of television shows from the library for binge-watching? You can! Not sure if you want to buy the latest album from your favorite musician? You can get it at the library! You might think that our tiny library can’t possibly have the shows or movies you want. But I think you’d be surprised. There exists a wealth of movies inside its walls waiting to be checked out. But our library also extends beyond its walls. Don’t see the movie you want? Request it through the MORE catalog. Most any movie you might want is available within our library system and can be delivered to your local library, usually within a week, for free. And if you can’t find it in the MORE catalog? The librarian can check outside the system and request it from another. You can also borrow e-books and audiobooks from the library catalog and download them directly to your e-reader or phone through Overdrive or Freading. Are magazines more to your liking? Aside from the magazines available in the library, you can download your favorite magazines using Flipster.
Manage Your Account Online
To keep track of your checkouts, you can sign up for Library Elf which will email you when items on your account are near due. Using the MORE catalog, you can log in with your library card number to request materials, renew items, or check on holds.
Activities at the Library
Our library offers much more than just storytimes and book clubs. The Glenwood City Library holds events for all ages: music and movement, to help young children develop gross motor skills, movie showings with free popcorn for children and preteens to enjoy a movie theatre atmosphere for free in a safe space, science events for elementary aged children, craft activities for both children and adults, & much more. Do you have an event you’d like the library to host? Just ask!
Take a minute to stop in at the library and see what you’re missing!
