Colfax Health and Rehab – 9-19-2018

News for the week of September 9th to the 15th:

Before I start with the news for this week, let’s review last Saturday’s events from the Colfax Firefighter’s Ball Parade. In the morning we busied ourselves loading the wagon with residents who would ride in the parade.

While waiting for the parade to begin, residents enjoyed a picnic lunch aboard the wagon. Along with the residents, several staff members walked the parade route and threw candy to the many children that lined the streets. We all had a great time, and enjoyed the ride in the parade. We appreciate Rick and Dianne Hedrington taking the time to drive from Albertville on their John Deere Tractor and pull the parade wagon which is owned by the Chippewa County Rural Heritage Tractor Club.

Sunday evening found many gathered around the TV to watch our favorite Green and Gold team beat the Chicago Bears. Some of us didn’t stay up to watch the end of the game, but found out on Monday morning that they had won! Way to go Packers!

Monday found the Green Leaf Crafters meeting in the Square to work on items for our Fall Craft and Vendor Sale. We now have several fleece scarves done and ready to keep the kids to keep warm this winter. Meanwhile exercises were the order of business in the East Dining Room. In the afternoon residents gathered in the Square for our monthly black out bingo. We played four rounds, which meant four residents went away the big winners and split a pot of over forty dollars. Those that left empty handed said they can’t wait to play again next month as maybe it will be their turn to win.

Tuesday morning found many in the Dining Room for an hour of Kicking Karaoke. Brenda directs the group that combines singing our favorite songs with a little exercise. After lunch the Catholics gathered for prayers and devotions. Patty leads the prayers and the residents appreciate her taking the time to share with us. Later that afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle, Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. Before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick spend some time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but sings some of our favorite hymns.

Vicar Chuck Shingledecker led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. The afternoon found the residents doing a little gambling. It was time for the Disc Drop Game. Residents are given cards with numbers on, and they try to guess which numbered box the disc will drop into after going thru a maze of pegs on a board. The winners go away with some delicious prizes.

Thursday morning began as usual, craft group in the Square, volleyball in the East Dining Room. That afternoon Loretta led our Catholics in the rosary. Later we enjoyed coffee time while working together on a jig saw puzzle. That evening, following bounce ball, residents spent some time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick.

Friday morning we gathered in the Square for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a Friday morning tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.

If you are interested in seeing what goes on at the Big Yellow House you can go to our web site, Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center or like us on Facebook where pictures happenings, the activity schedule and menu for the week are posted.

Until next week, enjoy the beautiful late summer weather! Barb Stobb, Activity Director
