News for week of September 11th to the 17th
The cool and cloudy skies of Labor Day kept many indoors, but that was ok as we still enjoyed a delicious picnic style lunch prepared by the kitchen staff followed by an afternoon of wonderful entertainment by Pete and Virgil. Families and residents alike enjoyed listening as they played several of our old time favorites.
Tuesday found the residents back in the Square to assemble fall wreaths. We enjoy working as the wreaths were assembled and the bright colors came together. Meanwhile the men enjoyed a video on restoring old tractors. It’s amazing the work that goes into these projects. Tuesday afternoon was Bingo in the Square, and many came away with bags full of goodies. Michelle and Eileen keep everything running smoothly during this hour of fun. Just before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick come and spend time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Wik led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns. Leona and Cindy were here once again to help those who needed help finding the songs in their books. JC Colby entertained us in the afternoon. He always draws a crowd as his beautiful voice and talented guitar playing echoes our favorite country western songs throughout the halls.
It wouldn’t be Thursday without a fast pace game of volleyball. Residents lined up in the dining room for an hour of toss the ball. Everyone came away the winner, with all getting a little exercise in the process. Later residents gathered in the East Dining room to participate in our catholic worship service. Father Joe and Jerry from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound take time from their busy schedules to come as share with our residents. Later we loaded up the van and headed for Eau Claire. We decided to leave the men back in Colfax this time and make it a day just for the women! Before hitting the store, we stopped at a local restaurant for a quick lunch. Then it was off to Walmart for an afternoon of marathon shopping! When everyone’s carts were full and the money was gone, it was time to head back to Colfax. That evening, after bounce ball, residents spent some time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick. It is great that he takes time from his busy schedule to share with us.
Friday morning found our Catholics gathering for rosary. Later, Gospel Sing a Long followed in the Square. Thanks again to Delores, Bruce, Glen and Julie for leading us. The afternoon was spent in the Square with an hour of Dime Bingo.
It was a beautiful day for the Annual Colfax Fireman’s Ball festivities. Residents and staff alike joined in the excitement of the day. Several residents gathered with their families for the event, while others took a ride through the parade in a wagon pulled by a John Deere tractor owned by Rick and Dianne Hedrington. After our turn thru the parade route, the residents enjoyed watching the rest of the parade. It was fun to watch the children’s faces as they ran to gather the treats that were thrown. Colfax can be very proud of this event and the residents enjoy attending it each year.
