FALL CREEK – It was a cool, crisp Saturday morning when the Bulldogs headed to Fall Creek on September 8th to compete in the Knudtson Invite. Great running conditions allowed the Bulldog boys to take fifth place in a field of twelve teams. In the team competition Tomahawk was first followed by Durand, Bloomer and Rice Lake.
Nathan Corr once again lead the Boyceville boys as he finished in 12th place with a time of 19:11.7. Second for the Bulldogs was Steven Rasmussen in 17th followed by Cade Klefstad in 40th. Brian Johnson and Nathaniel Chich rounded out the top five.
After the race head coach, Corey Day had this to say about the boys’ race: “It was the same team result but I felt every boy ran better than the previous race. They are learning how to race and it is an exciting process. We worked on some race tactics in practice this last week and every guy on the team employed them to the best of their ability.” He also remarked about freshman, Brian Johnson, saying “Brian Johnson moved from our 6th runner to our 4th runner on the team. Brian is starting to realize his potential as a runner.”
Unfortunately for the girls their numbers are down this year and they still don’t have enough runners for a complete team. Noelle Wheeldon and Rachel Becker were the duo that ran for the girls this week. Noelle finished in 46th place with a time of 26:49.3 and Rachel came in 58th with a time of 35:56.4. Coach Day remarked “Noelle Wheeldon is steadily improving her time. Rachel Becker joined us for her first race. I think the nerves got the best of her at this race, but I believe that is out of the way and she will improve greatly in the next race.”
That next race for the Bulldogs was Tuesday, September 11th at Rice Lake. On Tuesday, September 18th Boyceville will head to Mondovi to compete at an invitational at the Valley Golf course.
