The St. Croix County Deputies Benevolent Association held its second annual “Shop with a Cop” event on August 10, 2018.
The Benevolent Association teams up with Grace Place and the Salvation Army out of New Richmond. The Benevolent Association, with the help of six local school districts were able to nominate children who fit the criteria for the program. Local law enforcement officers volunteered their time to shop with a child for new outfits, a new pair of shoes and other basic items like socks and underwear to get their school year off to a great start. Children were paired with an officer and then took a ride in a squad car to Wal-Mart in New Richmond to do some shopping. The day not only helped the physical needs of the child but also forge healthy relationships with local law enforcement Officers that participated.
Last year, individuals and businesses within St. Croix County sponsored 45 children to go shopping with a Cop by sponsoring $6,200. This year, individuals and businesses within St. Croix County sponsored 66 children and $9,200. This program could not exist if not for community members and businesses in St. Croix County.
There were volunteer Officers from St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, New Richmond Police Department, Roberts Police Department, Baldwin Police Department and Glenwood City Police Department, as well as volunteers from the Salvation Army and Hudson Youth Actions.
