News for the week of August 12th to August 18th:
Monday morning found residents continuing to work on our boa scarves, gathering in the Square and visiting while we work. Our selection of colorful scarves is growing and they will soon be for sale as the cooler weather approaches.
In the afternoon residents gathered in the Square for our monthly black out bingo. We played four rounds, which meant four residents went away the big winners. Those that left empty handed said they can’t wait to play again as perhaps it will be their turn to win next time.
Cribbage was the name of the game on Tuesday morning with Al and Gus leading the group. The residents always look forward to this weekly gathering. Meanwhile in the East Dining Room the residents went a little crazy! Gather up some residents, add some instruments and a karaoke machine, and watch out! More joined in the fun when they heard the music and laughter coming from the dining room. The afternoon found Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. Volunteers Patty and Eileen always make sure this fun hour runs smoothly. Before supper we were blessed to have Jordan Herrick spend time with us. Not only does he bring us an inspiring message, but also sings some of our favorite hymns.
Pastor Hendrickson led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns. Leona and Cindy were here once again to help those who needed help finding the songs in their books. John Lynch was the entertainment for the afternoon. John was treated to an overflowing room as he entertained us with an hour of great music and humorous stories.
Residents gathered in the Square early Thursday morning for our monthly Breakfast Club. Before we ate, we discussed different menu choices they might like. After the meeting Chef Andy treated us to warm cinnamon rolls and Strawberry filled Crepes with fresh whipped cream. All agreed, Chef Andy out did himself again! The afternoon found many in the East Dining Room for a fun word challenge. The group worked together to complete a giant crossword puzzle. It was fun to see if our answers were right and the puzzle came together correctly. That evening following bounce ball, residents spent time in an hour of prayer and devotions led by Jordan Herrick. It is great that he takes time from his busy schedule to share with us.
On Friday morning Loretta led our Catholics in the rosary, and afterwards we gathered in the Square for Gospel Sing a Long. This activity has been a weekly tradition for many years here at Colfax Health and Rehab, and the residents enjoyed listening to the talents of Kathy on piano and Bruce on the guitar. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
Next week we are looking forward to another busy week spending time outdoors grilling flip flop chicken, also enjoying the music of Chuck Kirkwood and Friends and ending the week with a trip to the Leinies Lodge.

Until next week,
