• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.
My favorite memory from high school is our last game of football my senior year. We went to Granstburg to play in a level 3 playoff game, which was the furthest an Elk Mound team had gone in something like 17 years I think. We ended up losing that game, but everything about the experience was just amazing. It snowed throughout the entire game, and the snowflakes were huge, but there was virtually no wind. It felt like a scene from a movie, where you get all the joy of a snowfall without the extreme cold or wet and slippery conditions. Sharing those last minutes on a football field with my teammates, who I consider my brothers, is a moment I will never forget. Even though it was a crushing defeat, losing by that much after coming so far, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
• What were your favorite high school classes?
My favorite classes have always been math and science. I enjoy math so much, so Calculus has been my favorite class to date, but I really had a lot of fun learning about all the sciences as well. Ever since I took probably the most challenging course of my high school career Sophomore year, which was Physics, I knew I wanted to be around applied science for the rest of my life. Since then I have taken Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, and Sociology. No matter what the science is, I have so much fun because I love to learn new things, and especially how things work and how they are connected and work together.
• Which activities were you involved in during high school? What was your favorite?
Football (freshman through senior); basketball (freshman and sophomore); track (freshman through senior); powerlifting (junior and senior); Student Council (junior and senior); National Honor Society (junior and senior).
My favorite by far is football, because it challenged me physically and mentally, taught me life lessons about hard work, integrity and toughness, and gave me friendships and memories that I will never forget.
• What are you plans after graduation?
After graduation I plan to work in rental property maintenance as well as do some traveling.
• Are you planning to attend college or technical school, and if so, where?
I plan on attending South Dakota State University next fall to major in Mechanical Engineering. I know I wanted to work in the applied sciences, but I am not sure exactly what field I want to work in, so I decided on Mechanical Engineering to keep my options open. I have interest in Biomedical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, and energy production.
