Can life without God come to any permanent good? No!
The Bible says of those who turn their back on God, “For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord: They would none of My counsel: they despised all My reproof. Therefore shall they eat the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices” (Prov. 1:29-31). There really cannot be anything more hideous and eventually despised than to have to live eternally with the results of one’s own choices. The reason for that is the inherent sin every man possesses. God graciously offers His forgiveness if we will trust His Son who died for our sins. To accept Him is to accept the eternal goodness of God. To turn one’s back on the grace of God is to say no to all that is good and to suffer the consequences of our own sin. This is true for eternity, but it also true as we live out our lives on earth. Sin always brings personal degradation, loss, and eventual grief. Sometimes that is not seen until sin has run its course in one’s life, but it is a sure accompaniment of sin. How mush better to trust God’s provision for the forgiveness of our sins and enjoy His blessing for time and eternity!
