A Word to the Wise – 2-8-2017

Can God calm the storms of life? The answer is yes for those who know and trust Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Concerning nature we read, “For He commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth the waves thereof” (Psa. 107:25). We then read, “He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still” (Psa. 107:29). What God can do in nature, He can do for us in the midst of our times of trouble and distress. As believers, we all have such times. They are a part of our human condition. While such times may be severe, we need not be without God’s ministering and enabling presence. True, He may or may not take the trouble away, but He can bring calm to our distressed hearts in such times. He can give us the strength and encouragement we need. Thus we are encouraged, “Be careful [anxious] for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God, and the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep you hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6-7). Yes, Jesus can calm the storms of life. His presence and His word make all the difference!
