Two injured in car vs. truck accident on Highway 63

ELLSWORTH — Two people were injured, one seriously, in a two vehicle accident on Highway 63. 

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, they received a call on Wednesday, January 11 at 12:43 p.m. of a two-vehicle crash with injuries and road blockage on US 63 at 690 Street in Pierce County.

According to the report, a southbound Chevrolet Impala lost control on US 63 and crossed into the northbound lane where it was struck by a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck and trailer.

The driver of the Impala, Charles Metelka, 74, of Menomonie, suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. A passenger in the Impala, Kathleen Metelka, 73, of Menomonie suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Baldwin Hospital.

The driver of the pickup, Steve Grove, 55, and his passenger, Denise Grove, 51, both of New Hampton, Iowa had non-life threatening injures.

Highway 63 was closed an alternate route was used. Assisting agencies included Pierce County Sheriff’s Department and the Ellsworth Fire Department and EMS. The crash remains under investigation, according to the State Patrol report.
