A Word to the Wise – 1-11-2017

Where can we look to for help in the new year? This is a good and important question because we will all have need for special help in the days ahead.

No one is totally self sufficient. We often may think we are, but one circumstance can change our minds in a hurry! Thankfully, there are many places of specialized help which we all need such as hospitals and the various commercial endeavors. Still, there are needs we have for which no help can be found on earth. There are needs that only God Himself can satisfy. It is thus that King David wrote, “Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth” (Psa. 124:8). Thank God, He has made provision for every need we may have including such things as major losses of life. For the Christian, there is never a total loss of all things really necessary to life. Yes, we may lose our wealth, health, and position in the world about us, but our standing in God places us above such temporal needs. That is, God has prepared for the believer an eternal dwelling, so that if all is lost here, we know that He will care for us for all of eternity. It’s not that the things of earth such as food, clothing, etc, are not important, but they in and of themselves are not the essence of the believer’s life.
