GLENWOOD CITY – Catherine Schurtz, a senior at Glenwood City High School and daughter of Carole and Eric Schurtz, will attend the first Citizen Washington Focus Presidential Inauguration Conference in Washington, D.C. January 17-21.
Schurtz was one of 31 high school youth chosen from Wisconsin, to represent University of Wisconsin Extension 4-H Youth Development at this event. Partial funding for her participation is sponsored by the Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and the St. Croix County 4-H Leaders Association.
Approximately 500 members of 4-H Youth Development Programs from around the country will gather to learn new skills in leadership, community service, multi-cultural integration as well as attend the Presidential Inaguration. In addition to attending assemblies and workshops, they will participate in discussion groups on issues facing our country today.
Delegates will also participate in hands-on community service projects during a day of community service as they develope work skills while helping individuals and organizations in a community improve themselves.
The networking skills that youth will gain during the event will help them in their after-conference work in addressing youth needs in their community and state through reporting back and coordination of educational and service programs.
