Boyceville boys’ cagers continue slide

TURTLE LAKE — If coach Ben Luer and the Bulldog boys’ basketball team were looking for a spark to ignite the second half of their season, they did not find it in their final game before the holiday break.

The Bulldogs went to Turtle Lake December 20 for a non-conference contest that all were hoping would break a four-game slide only to leave on the losing end of a 73-48 score. The loss extends Boyceville’s losing streak to five games.

Boyceville trailed by 13 points going into halftime, and were not able to make up the deficit in the second half. The Bulldogs, who were outscored 41-29 in the later half, fell farther behind the Lakers to end on the low end of a 25-point differential.

The brother tandem of Luke and Logan Knudtson led the Boyceville scoring effort. Luke took credit for 20 points, while Logan logged 15. Bryce Larson recorded a pair of three-point shots for a total of six points, Cooper Boesl picked up four points on a couple of a field goals, and Jayson Gonzalez sent in a single shot from outside of the arc to pick up three.

The Lakers had four players record double-digit scores, with senior Collin Hoffman holding the game’s top score for both teams with 23. He was joined by Jonah Kahl with 16, Eric Bauer with 15, and Caden Torgerson with 13.

The Bulldogs will be in action again this week. They are slated to once again participate in the Clayton Classic at Clayton High School taking on Northwood (Minong) High School at 3 p.m. on December 29 and Webster High School at 11 a.m. on December 30.

Boyceville is currently 1-6 overall record and is 0-3 in the Dunn-St. Croix.
