BHS Seniors Maxwell Engel and Hannah Guy selected as Menomonie Optimist Club Youth of the Month
The Menomonie Optimist Club provides Boyceville High School with the opportunity to recognize the achievements and efforts of outstanding senior students. The selected students are then recognized as the Youth of the Month.
The November Menomonie Optimist Club meeting welcomed two Boyceville High School Students to be recognized. Hannah Guy, daughter of Barry and Heidi Guy of Boyceville and Maxwell Engel, son of Tim and Jennifer Engel of Menomonie were both honored. The two students represented Boyceville High School as Menomonie Optimist Youth of the Month for November. Both students set an outstanding example for their peers and represent our school and community with dignity, service and academic focus.
The program statement from the Menomonie Optimist Club describes the qualities and attributes that made Hannah and Maxwell a great choice. “The purpose of the Optimist Club is to develop optimism as a philosophy of life: to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs, to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of man, his community, and the world.”
An Awards Banquet was held in Menomonie on November 16th to recognize their accomplishments. The banquet was also attended by two Boyceville High School Staff members including English Teacher, RuthAnn Ledgerwood, who introduced Hannah Guy and Mr. Steve Glocke, Boyceville Middle and High School Principal, who introduced Maxwell Engel. Each staff member was able to speak on behalf of the student’s active role in school as well as their commitment to community service.
Hannah Guy has been active as a student representative and athlete at Boyceville High School. She is a National Honor Society member, Vice President of the Class of 2017 and a Member of Student Council all four years. She has been an athlete playing Volleyball and has been Captain of the Team both her Junior and Senior year. In addition, Hannah has been a member of the Spanish Club, a Prom Committee Volunteer and selected to be a representative at the Visual Arts Classic. Hannah will be attending the University of Wisconsin La Crosse in fall majoring in Biochemistry. She plans to pursue a career in the Medical Field.
Maxwell Engel has also been incredibly active in supporting Boyceville High School as a student, athlete, drama and music talent. Max has been a National Honor Society member, a participant in Badger Boys State and also a member of the Junior Chambers Leadership Team. He has been focused on co-curricular involvement including Science Olympiad where he has earned multiple State Medalist titles, he has been a lead character for our Drama productions, as well as a Wisconsin Ambassador Of Music European Tour participant for Band. Max has also played Varsity baseball for 2 years and earned the honor of being the Cross Country Captain this year. This fall Maxwell will be attending the College of Wooster in Ohio and majoring in Political Science with a minor in Environmental Studies. After graduation he would like to pursue Law School focusing on Environmental Issues.
