Boyceville cross country teams finish fifth in Spring Valley, ninth in New Richmond

The Bulldog cross country teams attended two meets the week of September 26, and will attend two more this week before heading to the conference meet next week.

The boys and girls teams both finished fifth in the Spring Valley meet held September 29. The girls tallied 89 points, while the boys took in 110 at the meet. They then took a road trip to New Richmond October 1 to compete against eight other schools.

Both teams took ninth place in New Richmond. The girls scored 191 at the meet, while the boys picked up 220 points. The girls tied with Prescott on scoring of the top five runners, but the Cardinals had a seventh runner and so took the edge over the Bulldogs.

Boyceville ran at Amery on October 4. The Bulldogs will run in the Durand Invitational, which was rescheduled after a weather postponement, on October 6. They will then head to Arcadia October 8, which is their last meet before the conference meet in Mondovi on October 13.

Spring Valley

The Bulldog boys and girls raced to fifth place out of six teams during the Spring Valley meet.

On the girls team, Junior Emily Voelker led the way, finishing eighth in the race with a time of 22:59.35. Fellow junior Shiann Wagner was only 20 seconds behind Voelker and took ninth place for her 23:19.87.

The next Bulldog girl to finish the race was freshman Naomi Hillman. She took 19th for her 25:21.49 effort. Hillman was followed by fellow freshman Noelle Wheeldon, who finished in 25:54.23 to take 23rd. Junior Lauren Dominick finished 30th with her 26:55.13 race.

The Glenwood City girls won the team competition in Spring Valley with a score of 47. Kassye Todd of Elmwood/Plum City won the girls overall race with a time of 20:22.55.

Kiel Anderson led the Bulldog boys. The senior runner completed his race in 19:45.05 to take 13th place. Fellow senior Samuel Retz, who took 14th for his 19:55 race, followed Anderson.

Rian Corr, a junior, was the next boy to finish for Boyceville. Corr raced to a 20:41.96 finish to take 19th.

Maxwell Engel and Jerod Nelson, both seniors, rounded out the scoring runners for the Bulldogs. Engel finished in 21:36.61 for 32nd place, and Nelson was 34th after crossing the finish line in 21:48.79.

Junior Ryker Ferg and senior Michael Chich finished in 38th and 41st with times of 22:20.62 and 22:59.1. Juniors Emmett Kapsner and Casey Owen finished their races in 23:37.24 and 29:23.82 to take 46th and 51st.

Durand won the boys team competition after its top five runners placed in the top six of the individual race. Panther runner Brett Tomlinson won the individual race with a time of 17:35.49.

New Richmond

Both of Boyceville’s cross country teams ran to ninth-place finishes at New Richmond’s October 1 Invitational. The Bulldogs competed against several Middle Border and Big Rivers Schools.

Shiann Wagner ran to a 21st-place finish in the girls race when she crossed the finish line in 22:06.37. Her teammate, Emily Voelker, was only 15 seconds behind her and finished 25th with a time of 22:21.87.

Naomi Hillman completed a 23:15.30 to place 40th, Emma Harnisch was 54th after her 24:41.2 run, and Noelle Wheeldon placed 56th with her 25:31.37 race.

Junior Lauren Dominick rounded out the Bulldog girls with her 25:46.31 run to earn 59th.

The Menomonie Mustangs won the meet with a score of 26. Somerset’s Anya Swanson raced to a 19:02.81 finish to take first place individually.

Seniors Samuel Retz and Kiel Anderson led the Bulldog boys across the finish line. Retz placed 28th with his 18:57.18 race, and Anderson was 32nd after racing to a 19:12.34 finish.

Rian Corr was the next Bulldog to finish, completing his race in 20:10.59 to take 52nd.

Maxwell Engel and Jerod Nelson, both seniors, finished 61st and 62nd with times of 20:52.17 and 21:11.64. Junior Ryker Ferg followed Nelson to place 63rd on his 21:20.15 run.

Michael Chich was the final man on Boyceville’s varsity roster in New Richmond. He placed 66th with a time of 24:20.62.

The Hudson Raiders took top team honors at the meet. George Halunen, a senior at Hudson, was the winner of the boys individual race after running to the finish line in 16:56.86.

Junior Varsity

Two Boyceville boys ran in the JV race at New Richmond’s October 1 invitational.

Junior Emmett Kapsner finished 76th in a field of 98 after running a 23:02.84 race. Casey Owen, another junior, was 93rd with a time of 27:31.

New Richmond won the boys JV competition with 29 points. Hudson junior Joe Schmidt won the overall JV race with a time of 18:48.02.

Middle School

The Boyceville middle school cross country teams participated in a meet at Spring Valley on September 29.

Cadence Kurr led the way for the Bulldog girls. She was the 29th girl overall with her 14:59.59 finish. Emma Gruenhagen finished 32nd with a time of 15:22.45. Nichole Dicks crossed the finish line in 16:07 to place 50th.

Haylee Rasmussen and Emma Chich were 66th and 83rd after runs of 16:56.05 and 17:41.8. Jenna Goodell complete the girls team with a time of 18:17.45 to place 102nd.

New Richmond runner Barb Kling led her team to a first place finish overall and won the individual race with a time of 13:06.47.

Nathan Corr led the Boyceville boys to the finish. He placed fifth individually with a time of 12:21.27

Kaiden Standaert was the second Bulldog boy to finish. He placed 17th in the boys race with his 13:22.17 run. Simon Evenson followed Standaert to take 41st with his 14:24.90 race.

Nathanial Chich was the third Boyceville boy to finish and took 54th for his 15:04.14 race. Elijah Farrell and Treadan Kietzer were 60th and 72nd after completing their courses in 15:24.14 and 15:59.33.

Brady Thibado, Jacob Nelson and Marcus Wagner also ran for the Bulldogs in the September 29 race.

Roy Roberts of Ellsworth won the boys middle school race with a time of 11:54.31.
