Hilltoppers volleyball still searching for first win after losses to Spring Valley, Mondovi

Despite noted improvement, the Glenwood City girls’ volleyball team has yet to earn a victory this season.

The Hilltoppers fell to 0-13 for the year after losing in straight sets to the Spring Valley Cardinals at home on September 20 and in Mondovi on September 22.

Both conference losses dropped Glenwood City to 0-3 in the early Dunn-St. Croix Conference standings, a spot they share with Plum City and Durand, both teams the Toppers play over the next week.

Glenwood City, who hosted Northwestern last night (Sept. 27) in a non-conference contest, will be in Plum City Thursday and back home next Tuesday, October 4 to host Durand.

Spring Valley

The Hilltoppers lost 0-3 at home to the Cardinals last Tuesday. The team managed to put up some resistance in the first and third sets, losing 25-16 in both, but struggled in the second and lost 25-6.

Coach Christa Blaser said the team recorded 10 aces for the night, and drilled in eight kills.

“The ladies struggled to make any plays on the net,” Blaser said of the loss to Spring Valley.

Glenwood City rained 10 kills on the Lady Buffs in Mondovi on September 22, but it wasn’t enough to win them the match. The Hilltoppers lost to Mondovi in straight sets 25-14, 25-14 and 25-9.

The ladies are not getting wins on the board,” Blaser said, “But every game they are improving, their confidence is building.”
