PLUM CITY — Coach Corrie Roemhild and her Boyceville Volleyball team entered their Dunn-St. Croix opener in Plum City on September 15 with ten wins in 11 matches. The Bulldogs left with their 11th victory of the season after a three-set sweep of the Blue Devils.
“We are so excited to get our first conference win of this season,” Roemhild said after.
Roemhild’s Bulldog squad was able to stay focused during a busy homecoming week to beat the Blue Devils 25-15, 25-14 and 25-15 to keep their strong season rolling.
Senior Madysn Riek led the team in kills, accounting for 18 of the team’s 28. She also landed three aces and recorded seven digs. Sophomore libero Jaida Peterson was the team’s leading back-row defender, providing the most digs with 14. She also landed the most aces, adding four to her season record.
Brooklyn Hellmann, another senior, added another 11 digs to the Bulldogs’ total, and took credit for both a kill and an ace. Joining Hellmann and Riek in the double-digit-dig squad were Cassie Malean and Hannah Guy, both of whom picked up 10 digs apiece and were credited with four kills each. Guy also picked up a serving ace.
Morgan Kuhn and Erica Sempf, both seniors, added to the total digs, with Kuhn turning back three attacks and Sempf doing so twice. Kuhn also added three aces, while Sempf nailed a kill.
Riek put up four solo blocks and assisted on another 12. Sempf joined in the fun, nailing seven assists, and Malean and Guy each put up four block assists in the match. Kuhn logged another two block assists, and Hellmann recorded one.
“We had to make a little comeback in the third game,” Roemhild explained, “but we did a great job of fighting and gaining the momentum once again to finish the match strong.”
The Bulldogs hosted Durand September 20 and will travel to Spring Valley on September 22 to meet the Cardinals.
