Glenwood City had a pair of golfers finish in the top ten at the Spring Valley Invitational this past Saturday.
Senior Nathan Mrdutt scored an 85 to finish fifth overall at the 18-hole tournament held May 14 at the Spring Valley Golf Course while sophomore Collin Schone was just three strokes back and finished seventh with an 88.
The pair’s performances led Glenwood City to a fifth-place finish in the 10-team tournament with a score of 400.
Host Spring Valley easily won the tournament with a 37-stroke advantage over runner-up Baldwin-Woodville. The Cardinals, led by medalist Tyler Leach, who shot a three-under par 69 on his family-owned course, and runner-up Jason Richardson, tallied a 329.
Mrdutt was consistent throughout the tournament as he shot a 42 on the front nine and had a 43 on the back nine holes.
Schone cut six strokes off his front nine score of 47 on the back nine for an overall tally of 88.
The remaining three Glenwood City golfers each eclipsed the century mark. Nate Hill had a 109 (54-front, 55-back), Dillon Hierlmeier shot a 118 (56, 62) and Spencer Oehlke had a 126 (60, 66).
Team scores were: Spring Valley 329, Baldwin-Woodville 376, Ellsworth 380, Spring Valley Junior Varsity 396, Glenwood City 400, Osceola 412, Prescott 415, Clear Lake 442, Cameron 480, and Colfax 528.
The Hilltoppers played in the Dunn-St. Croix tournament held yesterday (May 17) at Whitetail Golf Course and will compete in the WIAA Division 3 Luck/Frederic Regional on Tues., May 24.
