Sempf headed to State Solo and Ensemble
While a conflict kept Boyceville junior Erica Sempf from attending the originally scheduled district solo and ensemble along with her fellow musicians from the high school and middle schools, it did not keep her from earning a berth in the state contest.
Sempf traveled to a different district solo and ensemble contest held at Clear Lake High School on March 31 and scored a 1* on her Class A piano solo to earn a trip to the state solo and ensemble contest.
Sempf scored a perfect score, receiving ones in all five categories – accuracy, style, technique, position and expression – on her rendition of Rachmaninoff’s Preludes.
Musicians must score five to eight points in order to receive an overall rating of 1* and a state berth. Class A (the top grouping and most difficult music) rating go from 1* to five.
State competitions are held on three different dates throughout the state. The first one was held last Saturday, April 30. The other two will be this Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7.
The solo and ensemble contests are sponsored by the Wisconsin School Music Association.
