Boyceville thinclads run in Winona

WINONA, MN — Things were just great all-around when the Boyceville track and field teams took part in the West Salem Outdoor Invitational Saturday, April 16 at St. Mary’s University in Winona, MN.

The weather, sunny and in the high 70s, was the best so far this spring and the facilities and competition were outstanding according to the Bulldogs’ head coach Corey Day.

“It was the best weather we have had (this season) and the competition was great,” said Day. “It was a great opportunity for high school kids to perform at a college facility.”

St. Mary’s track is similar to the one just down and across the Mississippi River at the UW-LaCrosse campus where the WIAA state track and field championships are held.

A pair of Boyceville athletes returned home with top finishes.

Juniors Cassie Malean and Brooklyn Booth each won an event. Malean cleared 5’ even in the girls’ high jump to win the gold. She also finished third in the long jump.

Booth topped out in the ladies’ pole vault competition to take first with a jump of 8’. Teammate and fellow junior Emma Harnisch finished tied for third in the pole vault after clearing 7’.

The girls’ 4×100 meter relay consisting of Malean and Booth along with Erica Sempf and Carlee Schultz copped a third in a time of :54.93.

Tyler Krueger had the Boyceville boys’ top finish on the day, taking third in the pole vault with a jump of 12’. Krueger also placed fifth in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles.
