Boyceville HS Science Olympiad team earns regional runner-up team award
MENOMONIE – Boyceville’s High School Science Olympiad team finished as the Science Olympiad West Regional Runner-Up team last Saturday, earning medals in 22 events and scoring 57 team points.
Regional championship gold medals were earned by senior Luke Timper and sophomore Jason Swanepoel in Astronomy, Swanepoel and senior Brandon Windsor in Dynamic Planet, senior Andrew Marshall and junior Max Engel in Air Trajectory, and sophomores Casey Owen and Nicole Drinkman in Game On.
Regional runner-up silver medals were earned by Swanepoel and Drinkman in Fossils, Swanepoel and Windsor in both GeoLogic Mapping and Hydrogeology, seniors Maddy Bygd and Carolyn Voelker in Forensics, Marshall and Timper in Its About Time, Bygd, Voelker, and senior Samantha Merkel in both Protein Modeling and Experimental Design, Swenson and Owen in both Wind Power and Bridge Building, Timper and Swenson in Robot Arm, Swenson and Engel in Wright Stuff, and sophomores Mariah Drury and Marissa Dormanen in Write It, Do It.
Bronze medals were earned by Timper and Swenson in Microbe Mission, Marshall and Engel in Electric Vehicle, sophomores Rian Corr and Emmett Kapsner in both Air Trajectory and Wright Stuff, and juniors Kiel Anderson and Marvin Wienke in Bridge Building.
Fourth place medals were earned by Bygd and Voelker in Disease Detectives, Bygd and Windsor in Invasive Species, Engel and Marshall in Green Generation, Voelker and Windsor in Food Science, and Timper, Marshall, and Engel in Code Busters.
“I am really proud of all of our kids and how well they performed on Saturday” said Boyceville Science Olympiad Head Coach Andy Hamm. “We have a large group of senior leaders and it will be fun to see where things go in the next month in preparation for the state tournament at UW-Stout. The regional tournament was tougher than ever and I am so proud of our kids for maintaining their consistent, high placement across so many events.”
Boyceville would also like to extend a congratulations and thank you to Menomonie High School for hosting the 2016 West Regional Science Olympiad Tournament. Boyceville Science Olympiad is coached by Andy Hamm, Jenna Willi, and Steve Duerst.
