Boyceville MS Science Olympiad defends Regional Team Championship

BOYCEVILLE – Boyceville’s Middle School Science Olympiad team finished again as the Science Olympiad West Regional Champion team last Saturday, earning medals in 18 events and scoring a school record low 67 team points.

Regional championship gold medals were earned by ninth grader Mark Timper and eighth grader Caitlyn Pelikan in Crave the Wave, eighth grader Cade Klefstad and seventh grader Nathan Corr in Air Trajectory and Scrambler, Corr and eighth grader Emma Bygd in Bottle Rockets, and Corr and seventh grader Connor Sempf in Bridge Building, Elastic Launch Gliders, and Hovercraft.

Silver medals were earned by Timper and eighth grader Tyra Kostman in Anatomy & Physiology, Timper and ninth grader Sarah Kapsner in Crime Busters and Meteorology, Kostman and eighth grader Ana Evenson in Disease Detectives, Cade Klefstad and eighth grader Noelle Wheeldon in Mission Possible, Evenson and Noelle Wheeldon in Picture This, Sempf and Corr in Road Scholar, Cade Klefstad and Sempf in Wind Power, eighth graders Amber Schlottman and Morgan Andrews in Wind Power, and seventh graders Brady Helland and Tanner Anderson in both Bridge Building and Hovercraft.

Bronze medals were earned by eighth grader Jasmine Windsor and Noelle Wheeldon in both Dynamic Planet and Invasive Species, sixth graders Ella Holden and Libby Bygd in Wind Power, and sixth graders John Klefstad and Preston Coombs in Hovercraft.

Fourth place medals were earned by Schlottman and Andrews in Bridge Building, Windsor and Kapsner in Fossils, Pelikan and Windsor in Reach for the Stars, and sixth graders Kaiden Benson and Shiloh Wheeldon in Wind Power.

Fifth place ribbons were earned by Benson and Shiloh Wheeldon in Crime Busters, Pelikan and Windsor in Food Science, and sixth graders Ethan Prestrud and Tyler Dormanen in both Elastic Launch Gliders and Wind Power.

Sixth place ribbons were earned by Evenson and Timper in Bio-Process Lab, Evenson, Kostman, and Emma Bygd in Experimental Design, and Evenson and Pelikan in Green Generation.

“I am so proud of the tremendous success of our students on Saturday,” said Boyceville Science Olympiad head coach Andy Hamm. “Our kids had a historic day highlighted by consistent success and a high finish in all 23 events. It is particularly exciting to see that Boyceville kids were on stage in every event and 23 different Boyceville students earned awards.”
