Boyceville Bulldogs endure lopsided defeat in Elk Mound

By Laura Giammattei

ELK MOUND — It has been a very bumpy road for the Boyceville Bulldogs this season, as another two losses last week has put them dead last in the Dunn-St. Croix conference.

Prior to losing to Glenwood City this past Friday, the Bulldogs traveled to Elk Mound on Tuesday, February 16, where, despite vast improvements, were manhandled by the Mounders in a crushing 82-31 defeat.

A hearty roster of 13 athletes provided the Mounders with the advantage of fresh players on the court throughout the game. Eleven of those athletes contributed to the Mounders’ 82 points, compared to the Bulldogs’ five athletes.

Though the Bulldogs gave some good looks from the outside, with senior Hunter Anderson and sophomore Luke Knudtson each providing two three-point baskets, the Mounders  administered a relentless assault of arc baskets which trumped the Bulldogs’ production by a wide margin.

Elk Mound senior, Brandon Bohl was the high scorer of the night with 18 points, all of which were produced from beyond the arc. Junior Mark Dickinson provided three arc baskets in the second half, finishing the night with 11. Sophomore Ben Lambele alternatively shot well near the net and also supplied the Mounders with a three-point basket. He ended the night with 13 points, all of which were produced in the first half.

For the Bulldogs, Knudtson kept in step with Elk Mound’s Bohl and provided the Bulldogs with 17 points for the night. Unfortunately, Knudtson was the only athlete for the Bulldogs that posed a threat offensively and his efforts were not nearly enough to overcome the joint effort of the Elk Mound squad.

The Bulldogs licked their wounds and refocused to play the Hilltoppers on Friday, February 19, where they played a much better game of basketball but again fell short of a win. They finish up their regular season with a home game against Mondovi on Friday, February 25.
