Marki Lagerstrom selected as Menomonie Optimist Club Youth of the Month

The Menomonie Optimist Club provides the Boyceville High School teaching staff with the opportunity to recognize the achievements and efforts of an outstanding senior student. The selected student is then recognized as the Youth of the Month.

Marki Lagerstrom was selected to represent Boyceville High School as Youth of the Month for January. Marki is the daughter of Karen and Jay Lagerstrom of Boyceville. The program statement from the Menomonie Optimist Club describes the qualities and attributes that made Marki a great choice.

“The purpose of the Optimist Club is to develop optimism as a philosophy of life: to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs, to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of man, his community, and the world.”

To recognize her accomplishments there was an Awards Banquet held in Menomonie on January 20th. Boyceville High School Teacher Mrs. Laura Debee attended the Awards Banquet. Mrs. Debee had the opportunity to introduce Marki and talk about her achievements, both in school and our community. Marki is a three sport athlete committing the past four years to Basketball, Volleyball and Softball. She has been a Varsity Letter earner every year and was awarded the honor of “Most Valuable Offensive Player and Teammate” for Basketball. Marki has been a valuable leader, supportive team member and a positive role model for her peers. Whenever she is asked to assist or lead on a project, Marki can always be counted on. Her leadership roles within the school include Student Council (Secretary and President), Vice President of the Class of 2016, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) including Secretary, Vice President and President roles. Marki was also a National Qualifier for FCCLA competition called “Interpersonal Communications”. She has made academics a goal as well earning status as a National Honor Society member. Outside of the school building Marki continues to support others in need and gives back to her community. She has taken a mission trip to South Dakota to volunteer at the Pine Ridge Reservation and also is a member of the Youth Choir at Church. Her academic focus, service to her community and commitment to leadership has made Marki a wonderful choice for the Optimist Award. Congratulations to Marki on being selected as an outstanding senior!
