BOYCEVILLE — The Lady Bulldogs hit the road over the weekend and emerged victorious against the Mondovi Buffaloes on Saturday, January 16.

A 56-45 win in Mondovi was just what the ladies needed after a devastating 62-18 loss against the archrival Glenwood City Hilltoppers earlier in the week.

Both teams performed well on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court which provided for a very competitive and exciting first half. The girls ended up with a 23-point tie at halftime. The Bulldogs came into the second half with confident energy and pulled ahead to win the game by nine.

Juniors Madysn Riek and Cassie Malean led the Bulldogs’ on offense with 21 and 15 points, respectively. Riek shot well near the basket, while Malean stayed hot at the arc. Riek also connected on five of her six attempts at the free throw line.

On the other side of the court, seven Buffalo athletes contributed to their team’s total 45 points with sophomore Haley Poeschel leading the pack with ten points, followed closely behind by teammate Emily Flaskrud with nine points and sophomore McKenzie Akina with eight.

Defensively, the Bulldogs performed better in the second half than the first, despite a number of turnovers. The Buffaloes struggled to hit buckets and the Bulldogs came up with many defensive rebounds which provided the girls with more offensive possession. Fortunately, they also capitalized on many of their opponents missed shots and turnovers, which led to their ultimate victory.

The Lady Bulldogs will host their next match against the Durand Panthers on Thursday, January 21.
