Cardinals crush Topper boys

PRESCOTT — For a second straight season, Prescott laid a crushing basketball defeat on the Glenwood City boys.

Last January, the visiting Cardinals pasted the Hilltoppers 80-40 en route to a 25-2 season that ended with a loss to eventual state champion Brown Deer in the WIAA Division 3 state semifinals.

It didn’t get any better when Glenwood City traveled to Prescott Tuesday, December 22 for the home-and-home series.

In fact, it was worse.

Prescott throttled Glenwood City by 52 points this time around as 7-foot junior Owen Hamilton and 6’ 5” senior Mikey Harris each scored 23 points and grabbed ten rebounds in the Cardinals’ 93-41 victory.

The pair, who figured in last year’s win, dominated both the offensive and defensive ends of the court last Tuesday in Prescott.

Peter Brookshaw added 15 points as five other Cardinal players scored.

Statistics for Glenwood City were not available as of Monday’s (December 28) deadline.

Prescott eclipsed the half-century mark by halftime and lead Glenwood City 52-18. The Toppers’ offense improved slightly in the second half but the Cardinals still held a 41-23 advantage in scoring.

Glenwood City winless on the young season was to host its annual holiday tournament Monday and Tuesday, December 28 and 29. The Toppers, 0-5, will travel to Spooner on January 5.
