Lady Mounders bruise Bulldogs

ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound girls will head into the Christmas break with another conference win under their belts after solidly defeating Boyceville 56-34 on their home court Dec. 17. The Mounders are on a five game winning streak and are 6-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play as they prepare for a couple of games in the Marathon tournament Dec. 29-30.

With McKenna McVey back in the lineup along with teammate Morgan Radtke filling the lane, the Mounders jumped out to a 32-12 halftime lead with McVey scoring 12 points on five close range buckets and a pair of free throws while Radtke did some damage in the paint herself with a pair of deuces and three free tosses for seven points. Elizabeth Fasbender added eight points which included a triple, and the game was pretty much determined by the break.

Fasbender canned two treys sandwiched around a deuce in the second half while Allie Weber knocked down three of four freebies to go with a close range bucket to spark the offense, allowing several bench players to see some action the rest of the game. Three Mounders finished  in double figures, led by Fasbender’s 16 points along with 14 from McVey and 11 by Radtke. Elk Mound finished 13 of 24 at the foul stripe while Boyceville was 12 of 17.

“We played pretty solid defense most of the game and although we began slow on the offensive side, we began to pick it up as the game went on,” Mounder coach Jordan Kongshaug said. “It’s nice to go into the break with a win but we have some challenging games ahead of us,” he added.
