Topper boys struggle on the hardwood

GLENWOOD CITY—The Hilltoppers boys are finding it very hard to keep up with the scoring of opponents on the hardwood court. A strong team from Elk Mound victimized them last Friday evening by a score of 70-36. This was the opening game of the 2015-16 Dunn-St. Croix Conference boys’ basketball action.

Opening of the game saw a very slow pace, and the Toppers actually took the lead early in the game. But they soon found themselves being outscored by three to one as the first half developed.

It did not take the Mounders long before they found the three-point range and before the first half came to a close they had burned the net with ten three-points to take a 48-17 lead into the locker room at half time.

The second half was not much better for the Hilltoppers as they struggled with missed shots and turnovers and could not overcome the balanced scoring of the visiting Mounders who had eleven players making it into the scoring book, lead by Ben Lambele with 15 points.

The Toppers had eight players finding the scoring range lead by Nathan Mrdutt with ten points and Riley Schutz adding eight.

The Toppers will host Elmwood/Plum City Thursday, December 10th before traveling to Spring Valley on the 18th and Prescott on December 22 to round out the schedule before the Christmas vacation.
