Boyceville to host Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament December 5
BOYCEVILLE — The small town of Boyceville, WI (pop. 1,089) will host the largest Science Olympiad Invitational Tournament in the nation on Saturday, December 5, 2015. The competition will be from 9:30 – 3:00, with awards following. There will be an estimated 1500 students who will participate in this event.
There will be 115 teams from five states, featuring some of the best and brightest students in the upper Midwest. Four of the teams are state champions, with two of them placing in the top six at Nationals. In terms of the competitive strength, MIT and Wright State are the strongest invitationals in the country. The next toughest tournaments are at Yale, Cornell and the Boyceville Tournament.
Science Olympiad is an academic competition featuring over 25 events that focus on the S.T.E.M. topics (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Some of the events are: Anatomy-Physiology, Bridge Building, Chemistry Lab, Electric Vehicle, Forensics, Fossils, Protein Modeling, Robot Arm, Wind Power and many more.
This is a great opportunity to see many local teams competing against some of the best teams in the nation and to learn more about Science Olympiad because next May, the National Finals will be hosted by UW-Stout, Menomonie, WI.
