A Word To The Wise – 10-14-2015

by Dr. Walter Olsen

What specific changes take place in the life of the one who trusts Christ for the forgiveness of his sins? While there are many things, two are especially significant.

The Apostle Peter exhorted believers that they should, “…show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness, into His marvelous light” (I Pet. 2:9). Apart from Christ, one lives in spiritual darkness. He does not really comprehend God, His character, His will, and all His marvelous works. Thus, he lives according to his own reasoning and not according to the revealed truth of the Bible. One who is spiritually dead has no capacity to comprehend spiritual truth. Only when one is made spiritually alive by faith in Christ does he begin to know something of the marvelous light of Christ. Further, when one comes to Christ for salvation, he is passed from spiritual death unto spiritual life. Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life” (Jn. 5:24). Indeed, the changes that faith brings are life altering.
