TOWN OF GLENWOOD — A 73 year-old New Richmond man became St. Croix County’s 10th traffic death of 2015. According to a news release from the St. Croix County Sheriff’s office, they responded to a two vehicle crash on County Highway D and 130th Avenue, about two and half miles south of Emerald on Wednesday, September 30th at 10:22 a.m.
According to the report a 2001 Sterling dump truck, owned by Albrightson Trucking of Woodville and being operated by Craig R. Groepper, 30, Menomonie, was south bound on County Highway D. A 2000 Dodge Dakota, being driven by Eugene H. Sempf, 73, of New Richmond, was westbound on 130th Avenue.
“Evidence at the scene indicates the Dakota either failed to stop or failed to yield at the stop sign on 130th Avenue,” the report stated. It continued, “As the Dakota attempted to cross County Highway D, the Sterling dump truck struck the passenger side of the Dakota. The Dakota spun around and came to rest in the east ditch, while the dump truck drove into the west ditch and came to rest.”
Mr. Sempf was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner. Groepper received no apparent injuries.
Assisting at the scene were the Glenwood City Police, EMS and Fire Departments, and Baldwin paramedics, along with the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The report indicated that Sempf was not wearing a seat belt while Groepper was wearing a seat belt.
The crash remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
