Glenhaven Auxiliary holds meeting September 8

President, Bonnie Cronk called the meeting to order and read Jean Booth’s treasurer’s report. Minutes of the June meeting were read.

Rustic Lore Pie Sale: We will sell pie and ice cream, coffee and lemonade in the tent next to Hiawatha Bank before and during the parade. Volunteers are needed from 11 AM to 4 PM. Each auxiliary member is asked to bring two homemade pies. Karen Stoner’s grandson, Mason, offered to make table decorations. We will be selling raffle tickets.

We received a $250 grant through the Thrivent team action program, which we will allocate toward the purchase of a portable cart to utilize for the pie sale. Afterward, Glenhaven staff will stock the cart with greeting cards, stamps, snacks and gift items that will be available for the residents to purchase.

Dave reported that the intermediate care facility is set to open on December first. The kitchen in the rehab unit is in need of new or used cooking / baking utensils. Nicole passed out a list of items we can donate to the kitchen or purchase at garage sales.

Fall Luncheon will be September 25th in Glenhaven’s lower level. Auxiliary members are asked to donate a food item. Raffle Tickets and money can be turned in on or before that day. We need to decide whether the raffle is a worthwhile fundraiser and if so, whether we should purchase software to print the tickets.

November 6th Coffee and Bake sale. Proceeds from last year’s event was $1,100, due in part to the silent auction and matching funds were donated to Glenhaven as well. Auxiliary members are asked to donate baked goods. In addition, Glenhaven and Havenwood will bake turnovers to sell so Nicole asked for volunteers to help bake on Wednesday and Thursday of that week.

The Glenhaven Care tree lighting will be Sunday, December 6th. There will be entertainment, a tree lighting ceremony and a meal of chicken and biscuits afterward. An individual light or a string of lights for the Christmas tree on the Glenhaven lawn can be sponsored in memory of a loved one or sponsored by a business or family for a donation, which will be listed in the Tribune Press Reporter. Ruth suggested the Dulcimer group provide the entertainment and she volunteered to apply for a Thrivent Team Action grant to help defray costs of advertising and entertainment. We will discuss this further at the next meeting on October 6th.

Bonnie reported that we have one new member, Vicki Schmidt. Dorothy made a motion, seconded by Louise, to adjourn.
