Gene Wylie retires from Navy

Chief Gene A. Wylie, a 1990 Glenwood City High School graduate has retired from the United States Navy after serving for 20 years.

Gene enlisted July, 1995 and his last day in uniform was August 7, 2015.  During those years he served in several locations and positions.  He served as a nuclear engineer, instructor, electrician, recruiter, and liaison. He served on the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Carl Vinson, based at Bremerton, Washington, while the carrier was in the Gulf immediately after the attack on 9/11.  His last sea deployment lasted 10 months and was aboard the U.S.S. Bataan, which was based at Little Creek, Virginia. The last three years he has served in the Naval Hospital at Jacksonville, Florida as a liaison between injured exiting servicemen and departments in Washington, D.C.  Gene is in the process of transitioning into civilian employment. Gene is the son of Evelyn Wylie, and the late Robert Wylie.
