Topper volleyball drops matches in Ellsworth, Spring Valley

The Glenwood City volleyball team, despite good effort, is still in search of its first victory of the 2015 season.

The Hilltoppers dropped a pair of matches at a triangular in Ellsworth last Thursday, September 3 and were then swept at the Spring Valley Invitational on Saturday, September 5.

In Ellsworth, St. Croix Central knocked off the Hilltoppers 15-25 and 19-25 as Carlee Strong, Becca Moll and Mariah Voeltz each had a kill in the match. Ellsworth took the match against the Hilltoppers winning both games by scores of 8-25 and 16-25. In that match, Moll had a kill and Voeltz ran the table with digs.

Saturday in Spring Valley, Glenwood City fell in all three of its matches as it lost 2-0 to Plum City, Cumberland and Elmwood.

GC opened against the Blue Devils and lost 16-25 and 18-25. Jenesa Klinger had three kills and Moll a pair. Cumberland then swept the Toppers winning both games by scores of 16-26 and 15-25 with Megan Speicer and Klinger leading in serves. In its final match of the tournament, the Toppers fell to Elmwood 8-25 and 10-25. Moll had five kills in the Elmwood match while Speicer led in serves and Voeltz with digs.

The Hilltoppers were in Cumberland last evening (September 8) and will be at Chippewa Falls McDonell this Saturday, September 12. Glenwood City will open conference play in Colfax, its eight straight road match.
